William IV Silver Gilt Vinaigrette by Thomas Shaw, 1831

About the Item

A William IV silver gilt Vinaigrette of unusually small size, probably for a child. Made in Birmingham in 1831 by Thomas Shaw. The Vinaigrette is silver gilt and is modelled as a pocket watch. The small size leads us to believe that it may well have been a rare childs Vinaigrette. The edge is finely chased with floral and foliate designs and the base and cover are engraved with engine turned concentric designs. This piece has a chased suspensory ring and the cover displays a vacant circular cartouche. The interior is finely gilded and well marked. The hinged grille is pierced and engraved with pluming scrolls, within a bright cut frame. Additional information: Year: 1831 Country: Birmingham Diameter: 1 inch, 2.5 cm
