Fox Hunt Vignette of 30 Assembled Toy Figures by Britains Ltd., England 1920-60

This fox hunting vignette is the perfect gift for the horse and dog enthusiast, and for the nostalgia of childhood and a changed sport. It is assembled from the Britains Ltd. toy sets entitled "The Meet" and "Full Cry", along with farm and village accessories by Britains and Johillco, both toy-makers in London. The figures were made in various years between 1920 and 1960. The earlier pieces have a matte finish, the later pieces have a glossy finish. All these toys are made of a lead alloy hollow-cast in sculpted molds. They were hand-painted at the factory in London, mostly by female workers. Since they are hand-painted, each figure is a unique example of Industrial Folk Art. Lead toys were outlawed in the U.K and U.S. in 1966, when toy companies switched to plastic or other metal alloys. The post-1966 toys have never captured the folksy charm of the older figures. These vintage lead figures have become a popular collecting field, loved by all ages and genders. They are now for display only, not for play. This fox hunting vignette includes thirty pieces: three huntsmen astride walking horses; two huntswomen side saddle on walking horses; two huntsmen astride galloping horses; one huntswoman side saddle on a galloping horse; one huntswoman in "habit gris" standing; one huntswoman in "habit noir" standing; one huntsman in "habit rouge" with coattails standing; ten foxhounds - standing, sniffing or running; one fox running; one shrubbery; one fir tree; three orchard trees; one fallen tree; and two hurdles. They are fun to rearrange, and they can be displayed in a showcase, on a mantel, on a shelf or in a wall box, on a table or desk, or in a bookcase. Leave it to your imagination.
