These containers were used for protecting delicate items such as glass apothecary bottles, perfume bottles, syringes, powder, ointment bottles, thermometers and other medical or vanity items. This very unique and interesting engraved shell casing is unsigned with respect to its maker, but presumed to have been made in possibly Kuwait or Turkey in circa 1917 in a Folk Art style. The shell casing is from an enormous solid brass artillery shell that has been cut and fashioned into a well tuned bell or gong.
