  • Light Up Library Glass Globe on Metal Base by Barrere and Thomas France, 1950s
    By Barrère & Thomas, Paris
    Located in Atlanta, GA
Girard, Barrere, and Thomas Paris manufactured this impressive terrestrial light-up globe in the 1950s. Geographer J. Forest designed it. This library glass globe is covered with print paper rotating on a chromed metal and aluminum stand. Besides regular countries' maps, there are ocean currents and the main trade routes of the period. For a precise dating of this library globe, we used two pieces of information: 1) Mention of Afrique Occidentale Francaise: French West Africa (in French: Afrique Occidentale Francaise or AOF) was a federation of eight French colonial territories in Africa: Mauritania, Senegal, French Sudan (now Mali), French Guinea...
