19th Century English Victorian Needlepoint Heat Shield Screen on Brass Stand

About the Item

Unlike the conventional folding fans and hand held face screens, this example was not a fashion accessory for women to carry but was part of the furnishing of a room; these face screens were used to protect a lady’s face from the heat of a candle, lamp or fire. Created in England circa 1880, the face screen stands on a intricate brass tripod base. It features a floral shield with side tassel held with an horizontal rod. The screen is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, and adorns a rich gilt finish and vibrant colors. 9.5"W x 4.5"D x 22"H
