About the Item

A high quality and most stunning French late 19th century Louis XVI st. Ormolu fire screen. This wonderful freestanding screen is raised on four scrolled legs decorated with richly chased acanthus leaves and ending with hoof feet. At the bottom of the screen is an elegant smooth cabochon crest accented with flowing ribbons and foliate garlands, while flanked by Ormolu draped swags. To each side of the frame are exquisite and large scale quivers wrapped in foliate garlands, and ribbons, while topped with the eternal flame. The frame holds the wire mesh securely, while at the center is an Ormolu reserve showcasing a bagpipe, tambourine, quiver with arrows, and swags of laurel garlands and ribbons. Above and centering the top of the screen is an elegant foliate wreath tied with a flowing ribbon, while flanked by foliate branches. Richly chased with wonderful gilding throughout.
