Japanese Modern Design Huge Room Divider 1950s-1970s / Partition

About the Item

This is a very large room divider with a modern design made in Japan. It is estimated to have been made roughly from 1950s to 1970s, and reflects the high skill and aesthetic sense of Japanese furniture craftsmen of the mid-century period. In my 20 years of experience as a buyer, this is the first time I have encountered a room divider like this one. It is extremely rare and most likely a completely one-of-a-kind piece that was made as a special order for a wealthy individual. The material used is ash wood veneer, and a “book match” construction method is employed to maximize the beautiful grain of the wood. The symmetrical, open-grained pattern of the wood grain gives it the presence of an art piece. In terms of structure, the upper board is connected to the lower base with brass to ensure the strength of the tall furniture. There is no problem in use, but there is a slight sway due to its structure. Please see the video for more details. The furniture is very well preserved for a piece of furniture of this age, and the natural patina of age adds to its charm. A room divider of this scale, quality, and rarity may never be seen again. It is a one-of-a-kind piece that combines not only functionality in dividing space, but also an overwhelming sense of presence and artistry.
