Moeraki Hybrid Sculptural Room-Divider - Albane Salmon

Moeraki Hybrid Sculptural Room-Divider - Albane Salmon Solid sycamore wood, partly dyed, oil fnish, H. 195 x L. 186 x P. 180 cm. One of a kind. Variations possible on demand Inspired by the shapes of New Zealand's moeraki boulders, this hybrid object is the result of experiments about wood and dyes led by designer Marie de Lignerolles and Atelier Sauvage. A sculpture, a piece of furniture or instead, a painting? It is hard to defne Moeraki. This intriguing room-divider is a 360° object that creates four different dreamlike spaces connected together through a continuous pattern of soft curves and deep hues of color. Each face offers a new point of view that plays with the opposition between opaqueness and transparency, unpredictable designs from wood grain and strict geometrical forms, large areas of immersive colors and small repeated patterns. Moeraki was created and exhibited at Révélations, an international craftsman exhibition in Grand Palais (Paris) on the occasion of Paris design festival D’days which sponsors co-creations between crafts people and designers in its Péri’Fabrique program. Albane Salmon Her aesthetics is nurtured by the random effects of natural phenomenons such as erosion and natural wear of materials exposed to the elements. She also explores the poetry that lies in the slight imbalance and irregularities provided by the human eye and gesture. As a trained cabinet-maker, Albane works primarily with wood and builds herself each of her designs. She favors asymmetrical shapes that result from freehand drawings and avoids using jigs and gauges. Albane Salmon also likes to retort to contrasting textures, colors and treatments that both highlight and alter the qualities of wood and act like a trompe l’oeil. The viewers are led to question their senses and to wonder about the nature and the unity of the material used. Besides creating one-of a kind and small series of objects and furniture, Albane Salmon works on commissioned projects such as custom solid wood furniture and installations.
