About the Item

Travel in style is what I would love to say but the Trouse d'Voyage or travel case on this one is so deteriorated that, I'm afraid, you may want to simply toss it and keep the treasures inside! Fine French sterling silver tops on all, guilloche style engraved or machined patterns with 18k gold plating (on sterling), referred to as 'vermeil'. A truly remarkable & rare antique French Napoleon III era leather 'trousse d' voyage' or travel valise, complete with a host of gilded sterling silver or vermeil topped jars, cologne decanters or perfume bottles & brushes and even an array of natural handled vanity or manicure implements and the original fitted protective cover! Hardly a sign of wear to the gilding on the silver but the case, as noted, is in horrible condition. It's missing the handle and the natural tanned leather cover is both dry and deteriorating and has splitting at the edges and/or seams. The comprehensiveness of the contents makes it a treasure! A Palais Royal style set, like the earlier wooden travel chests owned by Josephine herself. Yes, this one is a bit newer, dating between 1851-1879 but you'll absolutely love the vermeil & cut glass vanity set inside! A truly rare and magnificent set, don't miss it! Paris silversmith marks: Antoine Cosson-Corby, who was in business between 1851-1879. One item, scissors, is marked 'P. Sormani', may be a replacement to this set. Monogram is ML.

Very good-excellent condition! As noted, the travel case is quite deteriorated but intact and stable, the leather is so dry that it is easily worn or flaked to the touch. The vermeil sterling silver pieces are all in superb condition with no loss or wear to the vermeil and no chips or cracks to the wheel cut glass. There appears to be one missing piece, judging from the empty space on the right side of the case. The manicure set has scissors marked by Paul Sormani, a very notable French maker & retailer.
