This grand four-panel room divider by Maitland Smith unfolds as a theatrical fresco—a neoclassical trompe-l’œil mural rendered in lush, hand-painted detail. Each panel stands an impressive 8 feet high, with individual widths of 34 inches, creating a commanding collective span of nearly 137 inches when laid flat (approximately 11.5 feet). When poised in its gently angled display, it offers both architectural presence and flexible configuration. Opulent and ornate, the design immerses the viewer in Greco-Roman splendor: Corinthian columns, statuary, vaulted archways, and sculpted friezes evoke the grandeur of classical sanctuaries. The sculptural surface is richly textured with nuanced brushwork, and the reverse side is finished in elegant deep black—making the divider equally striking from front or back. Crafted from solid hardwood, the piece is generously substantial in weight and presence. Hinges allow easy adjustment to create configurations tailored to any space—from expansive room demarcation to dramatic backdrop or sculptural accent. In excellent vintage condition, the painted façade remains pristine, vivid, and intact.
