Antique French Carved Oak Wall Shelf Coat Hat Plate Rack Brass Renaissance

About the Item

Direct from France, a large (over 4 ft. length) and gorgeous carved antique French wall shelf. ~ Outstanding carvings throughout, with carved French gadrooning on the upper crown above the oversized large center panel, with geometric carvings down each side ~ Center panel has a center urn filled with fruit, surrounded by French swirls and flourishes ~ Lower band of ‘fish scale’ carvings above the serpentine trim ~ Seven large brass “S” shaped hooks on round brass bases, perfect for hanging copper pots, coats, hats and scarves in the hallway ~ Shelf top has two full length plate ‘grooves’ perfect for displaying plates, platters, framed prints and collectibles ~ The large size of this panel would also make this piece a great focal point as a wall hanging, you don’t even have to use the hooks As always, for those interested in comparing styles, I do have a variety of antique European wall shelves and racks listed in my store. A bit of history: In France, England, Belgium and across Europe, these shelves were originally used as a “kitchen shelf” with copper pots and pans being hung from the hooks. In today’s home or office, decorators are using these statement pieces in any room, with collectibles or home décor on the top shelf, perhaps towel storage in a guest bathroom, as a foyer or hall piece with coats and canes hung on the hooks, endless possibilities! Measurements: 22.5” height x 52.5” x 6”. (The back hanging hooks add another 1.5” to total height).
