About the Item
Antique European Black Forest Carved Wall Shelf Plate Display Rack German.
Direct from Europe (and one of our favorite finds), this stunning Black Forest carved wall shelf/display rack. Elaborate hand carvings throughout, with a high upper crown of Black Forest open carved vine and foliate, which is continued down each side of the three-level shelving.
Obviously created by a master carver, the attention to detail is found throughout, with hand stippling on the large, serpentine back panels and sides of the shelving. Note the identically shaped and carved open leaf and vines on the two lower shelf backs. All three shelves have shaped edging and slightly graduated widths.
The display is constructed for wall hanging and well built by craftsmen of the period, circa1890. Superb condition, obtained from its original estate of over 130 years!!
Measurements: 30.5” ht. x 24.5” x 10”. Upper shelf area, 19.25” x 5.5”. Middle shelf area, 7.5” ht. x 19.25” x 6.5”. Lower shelf area, 10” ht. x 19.25” x 9”.
