19th Century Regency Mahogany Boat Shaped Canterbury

About the Item

A Very Good Quality Regency Period Mahogany Boat Shaped Canterbury Of Generous Proportion Having Pierced Carrying Handle And Turned Upright Supports Over One Drawer To Frieze Raised On Elegant Turned Legs  And Brass Castors (It is widely believed that canterburies are named as such due to the first object of this design being commissioned by the Archbishop of Canterbury in the late 18th century. Although the original format is believed to have had divisions in both directions with the purpose of holding cutlery for the dining room, things soon progressed and they started being manufactured mainly for the storage of sheet music. In modern times of course a Canterbury makes the perfect vehicle for storage of newspapers and magazines. This particular Canterbury is very slight larger than most and features good quality construction. Perfect for storing those books and magazines alongside the settee, or chair for easy access whenever required) SHIPPING Please be aware that we the sellers of this item can confirm that due to the volume & type of wood species contained within, no restricted species CITES licence is required to ship this item cross border.
