About the Item

A combination of Japanese and Korean style and technique make this vintage mid century umbrella stand a rare find. The hand painted design is produced on a white ground. It is most likely of mid 20th century. Based on the beautiful designs with insects, flowers and overall nature depiction along with the signature it looks a rare Japanese and Korean mix, perhaps in the style of Satsuma. Asian ceramic umbrella stands are decorative containers specifically designed to hold umbrellas or so-called walking sticks. They are typically made of ceramic and showcase various Asian aesthetics, patterns, and motifs. These umbrella stands often feature intricate hand-painted designs, such as traditional Chinese or Japanese artwork, floral patterns, landscapes, or symbols of good luck and prosperity that include mythical creatures like a phoenix or a dragon. They serve both functional and decorative purposes, providing a convenient place to store umbrellas while adding an element of elegance and cultural charm to an interior space. This particular stand is in very good condition, and the quality of the hand painting is quite fine.
