"Rearing Goat, " Highly Stylized Art Deco Sculpture, Cleveland School

About the Item

This unique Art Deco sculpture -- carved, not molded -- depicts a highly-stylized goat figure with the ears of a satyr rearing up over a mound of Art Deco tendrils. The mythological feeling of the goat is reminiscent of the animals that romped to the strains of Beethoven's Sixth Symphony in "Fantasia," and the detail is very fine. This piece, though not signed, comes from an artist from the Cleveland School of sculptors and ceramicists, including luminaries such as Viktor Schreckengost, Waylande Gregory and Edward Winter.
