Codex or Códice means in latin a chunk of wood, it’s also used to refer to hand written manuscripts. Mayan and Mexica Codices were written in wood bark, mostly in pictorial Glyphs, but also using a numerical system that consists of dots and dashes and a special symbol for zero.
