About the Item

This cushion is a one-of-a-kind and part of a sustainability project. It has been created from an up-cycled, recycled luxury fabric, used with the intentions of promoting a more eco-friendly environment by using already existing materials. We both celebrate and cherish the past and take care with rare and precious vintage and antique materials. Through layers of carefully added backing the delicate fabric has been fortified for longevity and thus preserved. (the original designer/brand has been fully credited below) Description: Custom made one-of-a-kind luxury cushion (pillow) created from an exquisite silk ‘O Oscar by Oscar de la Renta' fashion scarf in a pale sea blue and multicolour stylised shells pattern. The forms fan out segmented into different colours of neutrals and blue greens in a style almost alluding to Art Deco. Backed in new 100% pure Irish linen, the aristocrat of textiles and certified by the Irish Linen Guild, lined in a layer of natural bamboo wadding, filled with new plush duck feather insert and a concealed zip. Óscar Arístides Renta Fiallo, known professionally as Oscar de la Renta, was a Dominican American fashion designer and his fashion house continues to dress leading figures, from film stars to royalty. Trained by Cristóbal Balenciaga (also see our Balenciaga pillows), he worked for he worked for Lanvin (also see our Lanvin pillows) and Balmain (also see our Balmain pillows) before going on to become internationally known in the 1960s as one of the couturiers who dressed Jacqueline Kennedy. At the age of 19 he studied painting at the Academy of San Fernando in Madrid and for extra money ended up drawing clothes for newspapers and fashion houses, the U.S. Ambassador to Spain saw some of his dress sketches, she commissioned de la Renta to design a gown for her daughter and he quickly became interested in the world of fashion design. Known for his elaborate show stopping wedding gowns. His work is often characterised by feminine, pretty, flattering and embellished qualities. The brand expanded to introduce a homewares line in 2002 but what makes our cushions so special is that it is unique and a one off and made from a luxury unused silk fashion scarf. It would look fabulous in a seaside home or one with a beach house themed nautical or even rococo style interior.
