21st Century Blue Green and Red Linde Burkhardt Lake Nepalese Wool and Viscose

About the Item

This carpet is part of the collection designed by Lide Burkhardt, a profound connoisseur of the Etruscan world, who was inspired by this to create 7 rugs that refer to frescoes and bas-reliefs that describe aspects of the religious world and the Etruscan society, following the common thread of the "joie de vivre". The rugs, which deal with daily life, were made between 2015 and 2018 and are produced in limited numbers. This carpet portrays the completely personal small garden of an Etruscan named Aulo (the general who conquered Rome during the 6th century BC). Aulus loved flowers, especially lilies and irises, but also beautiful herbaceous plants, broad-leaved plants and small shrubs. The garden was surrounded by large laurels and pomegranates, cypresses, pines and a little undergrowth, because only in this way could it grow to become a paradise for orioli, quails, blackbirds and thrushes. In the central field, the ducks wallow and cackle in the water, the shy orioles only show up for a moment, the quails leave their hiding place in the undergrowth. The bright colors of the plants and birds on the dark blue background color express all the joy of this composition. The pond in the centre is entirely in cotton viscose, which thanks to its reflections recreates the effect of water, Nepalese carpet, entirely hand knotted with Himalayan wool and cotton viscose.
