Antique Caucasian Akstafa long rug with four star medallions and birds
Circa 1880
This is a good example of a well known group of long rugs attributed to the town of Akstafa This rug is of classic design with four 'star' medallions on a midnight blue ground Each medallion is flanked by the traditional Akstafa birds with large peacock like tails The field is filled with many tribal devices and designs The border is a good example of the classic ivory ground Akstafa design
The rug has a soft floppy handle with fine wool, the colour palette gives the rug a soft warm feel
The rug is in excellent condition with slight even wear and good thick pile, the rug is suitable for normal domestic use
Hand washed and ready for use or display
