Antique Triple Medallion Caucasian Kazak circa 1900

About the Item

Gorgeous triple-medallion antique Kazak featuring three main medallions on a navy blue field and surrounded by a red/orange border. The rug is decorated with variety of small scattered motifs which gives it a cheerful and festive look. One can notice about ten different animal figures and that indicates the weaver was village and town artist. The triple-medallion Kazak has given its name to a well-defined group of Kazak rugs woven in and around south-west Caucasus. This distinctly handsome rug is a lovely example of this group of Kazaks. The rug has extensive wears throughout but all sides and ends are original. The wool is hand spun, soft and floppy. All dyes used to create this rug are absolutely organic and there are no restorations.
