Vintage hand knotted Afghan area rug in a plum/deep burgundy color from the mid 1900s. The beautiful Afghan area rug has an all over geometric design with octagonal medallions called “Gul (flower)” set in a plum color background with the medallions in dark burgundy and midnight blue colors. The rug has a narrow border with design in burnt orange, ivory and brown colors. The rug has a very special wool that shimmers under light and almost has a “silk feel” to it. It is a very desirable color combination and design rug that can work in any room design plan. The rug has extremely soft and shiny wool, The Baluch tribes live in the southeast corner of Persia and western Afghanistan and they use dark red, rust red, or various shades of brown as their primary colors in their hand woven rugs, saddlebags, and salt bags. This Baluch area rug has an allover design consisting of geometric forms in dark red, navy blue, and camelhair framed by four different borders make for a very subtle tribal rug.
