Antique 1920s Persian Heriz Rug, Red & Indigo, 5' x 6'

About the Item

This Persian Heriz carpet created, circa 1920 consists of a cotton warp and weft, hand-knotted wool pile and organic vegetal dyes. Depicted are an exceptional medallion, border and field as shown through the level of detail, the proportionality of the design and the balance of these elements. The coloration is quite striking with its vivid reds, blues, golds and greens. It is an extremely fine and rare example of a Heriz with two threads to each ply as opposed to four threads. The wool used to create the pile of this carpet comes only from the neck of the sheep, where there is the highest concentration of lanolin, thus giving it a silk-like quality and feel. This carpet is in excellent vintage condition, and the size is 4'9" x 6'3". Orley Shabahang takes pride in selecting and curating the finest vintage and antique carpets, ensuring that the preservation of this ancient art form will endure for generations to come.
