If you're a collector, an antique Persian Farahan Sarouk must be on your list! This antique masterpiece is truly incredible to behold in person. The colors feel like spring! Great condition. Even wool pile. This rug is made with a blue weft, which you can see from the backside (See photo).
Farahan Sarouk rugs often come close to the angular drawing of Herizes and Serapis, but a much finer scale appropriate to designs of classical derivation. This delicacy of design relates closely to the weaving technique of Farahans, which is relatively tight and fine. The coloration of Sarouk Farahan rugs and carpets tend to be rich yet soft, with emphasis on terracotta reds, delicate blues and greens, and pastel apricots and yellows.
Persian Farahan Sarouk rugs were woven in the village of Sarouk but these carpets given the name “Farahan” as a distinction for their exceptional type of Sarouks. The Persian Farahan Sarouk rugs were made over a period of one hundred years beginning in the mid 18th century.

These are some of my favorite rugs because they are incredibly well made and so artistic. Have you ever seen a piece like this?? Excellent condition! The ivory field is very rare for these pieces. One end is finished with traditional fringe and the other has a small flatweave finish. This is woven from the leftover warp and weft on the loom. I find this finish to feel organic and is such a nice textural change from the exactness of the wool pile. The fact that this small flatweave end is so well preserved tells us that this rug has been well cared for and well preserved for all of its long life. The Oriental carpets from Mahal were a product of the cottage industry in and around this Northwest Persian village, and were often produced on the family level. Therefore, they use the loose to moderate weave, and somewhat thicker pile, similar to nomadic and tribal rugs.
