Antique Persian Garrus Bidjar circa 1900

About the Item

A beautiful example of much sought after Garrus design Bidjar carpet, this rug is handwoven in the town of Bijar located western Iran. Made with high quality wool both for the foundation and pile the rug has a center ivory medallion sitting on all dark blue fields Dyes used for this rug are all organic extracted from plants and flowers. Dark blue from indigo, a tropical plant in the family of pea, different shades of reds made with pomegranate skin ,gold and yellow from saffron other colors made with sunflower hues, and seashells. There are expert restorations throughout this carpet and its overall condition is age appropriate. Bidjar carpets are known otherwise as "iron carpets" for the fact that they are so tough and could withstand hundred years of usage.
