About the Item

With deep and robust shades of red, indigo, green, and gold wool, this hand-knotted Mohajeran carpet measures 8’8” x 13’ and is a true homage to classic Persian rugs. Stemming from the Sarouk family of carpets, Mohajerani carpets are the rarest carpets produced in the Hamadan Province of Iran. Inspired by this prestige, this Mohajeran carpet was crafted using a traditional Persian weave that formed the basis for the Orley Shabahang Shekarloo weave. The overall symmetrical design features motifs of floating butterflies, blooming flowers, and petit willow trees living together harmoniously. In the top-right corner of the border is the weaver's signature. Orley Shabahang works house to house, village to village with our weavers, working to preserve the art of weaving as a cottage industry and implementing ancient weaving methods to create the antiques of the future.
