Vintage Persian Tabriz Mahi in Geometric Pattern in Red, Navy, Ivory, Burgundy

About the Item

Vintage Persian Tabriz in Mahi (Fish) pattern with silk highlights from the 3rd quarter of the 1900s. The classic geometric pattern is loved in Persia and is hand-knotted in several cities in the Azerbaijan Province of Persia. The best of these rugs come from the workshops in the city of Tabriz which this rug was woven in. The Tabriz Mahi design in red has several diamond patterns radiating from the center of the rug out in alternating red and cream colors framed with a beautiful dark red or burgundy color border. The ageless design is copied by other weavers. The key is to find a truly genuine piece such as this from the ancient city of Tabriz in NW Persia. • A Pair of Vintage Persian Tabriz in Geometric Pattern Navy, Ivory, Green, Blue
    Located in Barrington, IL
This antique Tabriz rug is following the design of the Caucasian Kuba and Shirvan rugs from the 19th century in the "Afshan" design (stylized dragon and blossom). The rug has a geometric all-over design similar to Caucasian Shirvan rugs which are generally in a smaller 4×6 size. What makes this truly one-of-kind is that the design and pattern of those small rugs are implemented in a larger room size with the same details in the color palate. The use of geometric forms and bright colors throughout makes a truly wonderful design. This rug is part of the identical pair (1260 and 1261) that was most likely commissioned by a top rug weaver in the city of Tabriz in NW Persia and custom-designed and made in the 2nd quarter of the 20th century as a wedding gift. Rugs with SKU 1260 and SKU 1261 will be sold as a pair.
