20th Century White and Brown Turkish Kilim Karapinar Runner, ca 1950

About the Item

While vast landscapes of the Anatolian steppe in summer are yellow for sunflowers as far as the eye can see to satisfy most travelers, the Karapinar is the ideal destination for those who thirst for a real piece of desert, an almost totally uninhabited city on the edge of a sand desert (with dunes and everything) about 170 km southeast of Konya. This is the context where these kilims are born. An essential dry style, which uses natural wool not even dyed. Our kilim is characterized by horizontal stripes that alternate from various shades of beige to dark brown. The natural mélange of wool thus becomes an element of decoration. The measure is unusual also because these kilims are usually used under curtains as seating or to divide spaces.
