A highly refined room size carpet distinguished by a very soft palette and by an 'Old World' distressed condition, which imparts a certain understated elegance and a feeling as if the rug belonged forever to the room it decorates. Rugs of this type were commissioned at the beginning of the 20th century, when the fashion for oriental carpets had reached its peak.
