Rare Antique Bergama Kiz Rug Turkey Red Grey

About the Item

This is an example of the rare and hard to find tribal Turkish Bergama Kiz rugs. The color is often referred to as Turkish red. The condition is very good with vibrant colors. Bergama semi antique carpet red, gray rare 132 x 110 cm hand-knotted Bergama rugs and carpets from western Anatolia. In western Turkey, about 30 miles / 50 km north of Izmir, lies the small town of Bergama, formerly known as Pergamon. Historically there is a lot to tell about this region. In the 3rd and 2nd centuries v. BC Pergamon was the capital of the Pergamenian Empire, which extended over large parts of western Asia Minor. The city was also one of the most important suppliers of the precursor of paper - parchment made from goat skin. Many antique rugs in museums of the world have their origin in this area. Manufacturing method: Hand-knotted Design: Inner panel medallion Length: 132 cm / 4.2 ft Width: 110cm / 3.7 ft Colour: madder red, various shades of grey Material: 100% handspun highland virgin wool pile Material (Warp): 100% Wool Age: Vintage / semi antique, circa 1940's - 50´s. Condition: Very good condition, age-related patina and abrasion Shape: Rectangular Fringes: 2 sides short kilim border with fringes, very good original condition Knot Density: Approx. 160,000 - 200,000/m² Underfloor heating: Suitable Anti-slip: We always recommend using a carpet underlay to avoid accidents caused by slipping carpets on smooth floors.
