Hand-knotted in wool, this 8x12 vintage Sivas rug, circa 1950-1960, features intricate Herati patterns in rich browns all over the beige surface with off-white accents.
On the design:
The majestic, intricate nature of this piece attests to itself in rarity, offering both a grand sense of movement as well as a constantly engaging glimpse of accenting hues of beige, brown and off-white, highlighting the sense of refinement and detail the motifs enjoy. This rug features intricate Herati patterns—sometimes called the “fish” pattern, which is a renowned play of geometric and floral patterns in a kaleidoscopic fashion that’s so celebrated because it’s one of the styles used to show a weaver’s skill of how they achieve fine detail in such small, intricate repeats.
