About the Item

Hand-knotted in wool circa 1960-1970, this 6x9 vintage rug from Turkey is believed to be among the rare works of mid-century artist Zeki Müren. On the Design: Connoisseurs will admire this among the works believed to hail from this artist that connote a mid-century modern approach to traditional Turkish motifs. Keen eyes for detail will admire the geometric patterns, also especially motifs in red, green, beige/brown, and similar hues. One must admire the sheer attention to craft that achieves this sense of movement—a hallmark of Müren’s rare style. Keen eyes for detail will note that this is some of Müren’s most subversive colors among his works, yet also one of his more humble palettes, both forgiving and playful—a comfortable and personal work from a mid-century artist. It’s a light and playful piece with the whimsy of a Müren rug, but also with the comfortable and livable undertone that his works also embody, so thoughtful in their approach to the postmodernist appeal of the time and collectible in his suspected works curated today. Condition: This mid-century vintage Zeki Müren rug further enjoys good condition for its age and origin.
