Fine Belle Epoque Era Aubusson Carpet
About the Item
The town of Aubusson has long since been famous for the high quality of its textiles, its reputation stretching back as far as the 14th Century, as a centre of Medieval tapestry weaving. In the 17th Century, its workshops were given ‘Royal Appointment’ status, commissioned to produce elaborate carpets for the French Court, well-known for their tight weaves and lustrous wool.
This piece dates to the late 19th Century - the period known as the 'Belle Epoque' - featuring a wonderfully crisp floral design, with sage green and duck egg blue tones, worked over a muted ground surrounded by a salmon border, the colours of which have all gracefully aged.
A beautiful carpet, which would make a fine addition to any interior.
In very good condition for everyday use.
