"PEACE" Owl Grey, Red, Burgundy Tree Alphabet Carpet, Tapestry by Rhyme Studio

$5,950

About

Peace of mind", "Inner peace", "Peace and quiet", "World peace" Peace may well be one of the most fundamentally important words in the human lexicon. Made using native Irish wool, The OM Series derives from a 1600 year old architectural alphabet Ogham, used mainly to write the early Irish language.  The words we use, think and hear are powerful. With this collection we explore the idea that designing for wellness is not just a question of advocating for indoor air quality, advanced water filtration systems, sustainable manufacturers and avoiding synthetic or chemically treated materials. A feeling of wellbeing can arise from surrounding ourselves with design that is not only composed of renewable and organic fibers like Irish wool but represents words that have the power to calm, heal and restore. If words are the paint with which we illustrate our reality, perhaps never before has it been so important to choose our utterances carefully and surround ourselves with positive affirmations. Language is one of the most powerful human attributes and even ancient scripture has promoted the concept that life and death are in the power of the tongue. With four new carpet and tapestry designs that represent words such as Shelter and Protect, Peace, Health and Welcome, Rhyme Studio offers a sustainable high quality and customizable Irish wool rug design concept for interiors designed to reassure. Since Covid-19 emerged, the home has taken on a new critical importance in our lives, not only as a personal sanctuary but now as the key to our survival during a human health crisis. Playing on the notion that “words we use become the house we live in” new OM Series rugs strive to offer a more meaningful approach to homeware design that can contribute to the psychological wellbeing of our lives. Known for monumental inscriptions on standing stones, the history of Ogham dates back to at least the third or fourth century A.D, placing it in use long before the arrival of Latin to Ireland. Also called the tree alphabet, some believe it was created by druids and scholars as a secret form of communication. These mysterious letters of Ogham were paired with ancient Irish tree and plant species, many of which were considered sacred but have all but disappeared from Ireland’s landscape today.

About The Maker

Rhyme Studio is a Brooklyn based design manufacturer, interiors and art advisory. On a mission to breathe unique form, color and sustainable craftsmanship into the world of rug design, we source Irish wool for our rug collection from Galway sheep farms. It is processed at a 300 year old woolen mill, hand dyed using non toxic dyes by a 200 year old mill before tufting by hand into carpet at our rural Irish farmhouse studio. The OM Series is inspired by a 1600 year old alphabet called Ogham and features the rich deep brown wool of the Irish black sheep Zwartbles. Known for monumental inscriptions on standing stones, Ogham is also called the tree alphabet and many believe it was created by druids and scholars as a secret form of communication. Other collections include the Limited Edition The Insula Series inspired by 7th Century Irish art and illuminated manuscripts. This era was considered a golden age for the arts in Ireland. "Trinity" is a study of triangular forms and rich colours and a fourth design series entitled "Modernity" will debut in autumn 2020. Founder Claire McGovern has designed interiors, curated art and design installations and collaborated with many talented artists and designers. Her entrepreneurial days began with a critically acclaimed art and design gallery evolving into the interiors and design practice she operates from New York City today. Her office is proud to also represent the works of storm chaser Ian Sheldon and Irish sculptor Helen O'Connell.
