19th Century Pair of Swedish Gustavian Birch Chairs Attributed to Ephraim Ståhl

About the Item

An antique pair of Swedish Gustavian armchairs made of hand crafted painted Birchwood, designed and produced most likely by Ephraim Ståhl in good condition. The Scandinavian side chairs have an half-rounded padded backrest, decorated with slim armrests, standing on four wooden legs, particularized by polished brass décor. The club chairs are representing the Neoclassical Greek style. Newly upholstered in a light-grey hemp, decorated with light-blue piping, decor. Wear consistent with age and use. Circa 1800 - 1810, Stockholm, Sweden, Scandinavia. Ephraim Ståhl was a Swedish furniture designer and manufacturer, born in 1768, in Stockholm, Sweden and passed away in 1820. Ståhl worked during the reign of Gustav IV Adolf, Charles XIII and also of Charles XIV Joan. The Royal Housewares Chamber ordered a few chairs from him. Ståhl's personal life and professional training remains lost in history.
