Alky armchair by Giancarlo Piretti for Castelli Italy 70s

About the Item

Giancarlo Piretti designed this Alky armchair for the renowned Castelli publishing house. This Italian designer studied at the Instituto Statale d'Arte before beginning his career with Anonima Castelli. For more than two decades, he has created a wide range of furniture, including the Plia chair, the Alky armchair and the Dorsal, which have become iconic pieces of design. His creations are both functional and aesthetic, and have been widely recognized throughout the design world. "Alky" is typical of 70s design, and is part of the Space Age universe. This movement was born in the 60s in response to the space race, and is characterized by the use of organic forms and new materials to create a futuristic utopian aesthetic. It influenced many fields, from fashion to architecture and popular culture. This lounge chair is designed with a sturdy aluminum frame, covered in polyurethane foam. It rests on a metal base for stability. It is upholstered in khaki vegan fabric. In very good condition, entirely reupholstered in our workshop.
