About the Item
This alky armchair was designed by giancarlo piretti for the famous castelli publishing house. This Italian designer studied at the instituto statale d'arte before starting his career at anonima castelli. For more than two decades, he has created a range of furniture, including the plia chair, the alky armchair and the dorsal, which have become iconic pieces of design. His creations are both functional and aesthetic, and have been widely recognised throughout the design world. "alky" is typical of design from the 70s, and is part of the space age. This movement was born in the 60s in response to the space race and is characterised by the use of organic forms and new materials to create a utopian futuristic aesthetic. It influenced many areas, from fashion to architecture and popular culture. This armchair is designed with a solid aluminium frame covered in polyurethane foam. It rests on a metal base for stability. It is upholstered in thick-grained beige leather. In very good condition.
