About the Item

Antonio Citterio was born in Meda, Italy, in 1950. He opened his own studio in 1972 and graduated in architecture from Milan Polytechnic in 1975. From 1987 to 1996, he designed buildings in Europe and Japan with Terry Dawn as a partner. Antonio Citterio works in the field of industrial design, in addition to Vitra, with companies such as Ansorg, Arclinea, Axor-Hansgrohe, B&B Italia, Flexform, Flos, Hermès, Iittala, Kartell, Maxalto, Sanitec (Geberit Group) and Technogym. His awards include the Compasso d'Oro in 1987 and 1994, and from 2006 to 2016 Citterio was a professor at the Accademia di Architettura dell' Università della Svizzera Italiana in Mendrisio. In 2008, the Royal Society for the Encouragement of Arts, Manufactures & Commerce in London appointed him Royal Designer for Industry. B&B Italia S.p.A. is an Italian company founded in 1966 in Novedrate, a manufacturer of furniture, furnishings and other objects for the home. The B&B Italia furniture company was born in 1966, with the name C&B Italia, from the meeting of Cesare Cassina and Piero Ambrogio Busnelli; the latter in 1973 will also buy the shares of Cassina building what at the time was considered the most automated furniture factory in the world, as well as a sophisticated research and development laboratory. The intent to combine design and technology is clear from the architecture of the B&B Italia headquarters in Novedrate (Como): a modern headquarters designed by Renzo Piano and Richard Rogers in 1972.
