Brazilian Modern Armchair Pair in Purple Leather & Hardwood, Cimo, Brazil, 1960

About the Item

Available now, this super comfortable and visually striking pair of armchairs are made of a solid hardwood frame and purple leather upholstery with buttons in the backrest. These armchairs have been re-upholstered by some of the best upholsterers in Brazil, a group of upholster masters that worked with the actual Sergio Rodrigues for 20 years. The wood has been refinished and besides the marks of time, which ultimately give character, the piece is in excellent condition. This set encapsulates the Brazilian Modern design of the sixties in a superb way: The bowling pin legs seen in many Brazilian design icons like the Mole armchair, the rustic wood finish and a relaxed appearance accomplished by the leather cushions. These Brazilian Modern beauties effortlessly flex into any Mid-Century Modern, modern, Contemporary environment. This piece would also look wonderful in a boho chic, or Eclectic style home as well. Móveis Cimo was created by Jorge Zipperer and Willy Jung, in 1913, Santa Catarina, Brazil. From the 1930s to the 1970s Cimo was the largest furniture factory in Latin America. Cimo's history starts in 1921 with a wood boxes factory called A.Ehrl e Cia. and ends in 1982 as a furniture factory, after a lot of names and format changes, as Móveis Cimo S.A. Cimo was committed to industrialization, carrying out the standardization of products, and facing serial production challenges. In the search for more accessible prices for the popular strata, the company did not abandon the possibility of developing quality products by rationalizing production, making better use of materials, and using advanced technologies for the time. Móveis Cimo became the largest furniture producer in Latin America, playing a fundamental role in developing its region and the advancement of manufacturing series furniture in the country, being a pioneer in several sectors and an essential chapter in the history of Brazilian furniture making.
