About the Item

The post-war period in much of Europe saw a wide array of inventive and creative contributions to the history of design. Modernist furniture became known for its sober character and undecorated elegance, with comfort and functionality often being the priority and heavy ornaments being considered unnecessary. Following these design principles, this accent chair is a unique piece with a black lacquered metal frame mixing straight and curved lines. Accent chairs are single seat chairs that create an eye-catching focal point in a room and provide an additional seating option. The design is defined by geometric lines that contrast with the softness of the upholstered seat, arm- and backrest. All the structural elements are indispensable for the chair’s stability and are arranged with geometric rigour. Elegance and strength are cleverly combined in this minimalist model, thanks to the way in which the continuity of the structural lines “sketches the space aerially”. The frame’s most captivating element are the arms, stemming from under the seat to support the upholstered armrests. They also comprise the only curved part of the frame, complemented by the back and seat’s round shape. This unexpected curvature in combination with the dark yellow velour upholstery is very effective in creating a stylish, modern look. The stark contrast between the colour and material of the two materials is very successful at accentuating each other. European modernist design is streamlined, while highlighting the materials used. The vibe of this accent chair is fresh, retro-tinged, and completely alluring with its dedication to quality and practicality wrapped up in a unique design that will never go out of style.
