French 19th Century Louis XVI St. Mahogany and Ormolu Armchair
About the Item
A striking and most elegant French 19th century Louis XVI st. Mahogany and ormolu armchair. The chair is raised by fine circular fluted tapered legs with topie shaped feet, lovely fitted foliate ormolu chandelles, and a wrap around beaded band. Above each leg are remarkable block rosettes flanking a delicate berried laurel band at the mottled frieze. Striking richly chased acanthus leaves lead upwards following the wonderfully shaped curved sides with cushioned arm supports and superb intricately detailed pierced ormolu mounts of blooming flowers and charming foliate designs. The curved upholstered back support also displays additional floral ormolu mounts with an exceptional floral and foliate central reserve tied with ribbon at the center.
