Gerrit Rietveld, Red and Blue Chair / Authentic Chair
By Gerrit Rietveld Jr.
Located in Zürich, CH
It was designed by architect Gerrit Rietveld in 1917 and manufactured under his supervision before 1951 by his craftsmen G.A.v.d. Groenekan, De Bilt from Netherlands. It represents one of the first designs done by the De Stijl art movement. Chair was originally designed in 1917 but variant painted in primary colors (red, blue, yellow) was applied later around 1923. Rietveld aimed for simplicity in his design. He designed furniture expected to be mass produced, not just handcrafted. With Red and Blue Chair Rietveld manipulated with vertical and horizontal planes in the same way he did in architecture. He hoped that the simple rectangular design would allow mass production and free the craftsmen from hard manual labor. Some of the first chair productions were made for the “Rietveld Schröder House...

Gerard Van Den Berg Arm Chair Modern, 1990s
By Gerard Van Den Berg
Located in Antwerp, BE
Gerard Van Den Berg; arm chair; Modern; Plain, usually slightly curved, and yet suggestive and unmistakable forms are typical of Gerard van den Berg. The Dutch designer consciously goes for simplicity and for this very reason shows his creative ability. Van den Berg, born in 1947, studied furniture building and design at a technical college. In the Seventies, he founded together with his brother the Montis upholstered furniture company. Thanks to his designs the young company soon attained international recognition. It´s success did not stop van den Berg´s leaving Montis in the early Nineties. Since then he has been a freelance designer. His work for leading international furniture companies...

Crate Chair by Gerrit Rietveld, Designed in 1930s The Netherlands
By Cassina, Gerrit Rietveld
Located in Hellouw, NL
Nice Gerrit Rietveld 'Crate' chair. This chair is designed in 1934, however, we think this is a Cassina edition from the 1970s. This chair is made out of ash wood and has a colorless lacquer. 'Gerrit Rietveld designed the 'crate' series of furniture built from standardized pine boards – cheap material for packing crates – which were soon well-known as ‘crate furniture’. 'From 1935 on the progressive designs appeared at Metz & Co, where furniture by Rietveld had already been sold since 1930. The crate desk...
