A Pair of Halabala Style Chairs with Curved Arms and Legs
About the Item
These sinuous and stylish armchairs are made in the style of Jindrich Halabala, a Czechoslovakian furniture designer and maker from Prague. Like the original H-269 design, these chairs feature solid beechwood arms that have been steamed and bent into shape. It's a difficult process that produces a frame that is strong and taut. The seat backs rake back dramatically, providing great comfort and style. The wide lower cushions are both supportive and accommodating. The solid wood arms have been given a matte finish. The upholstery is a modern boucle. One of the great designs of the interwar years, the H-269 was found only in Eastern Europe until the early 2000's when Western European collectors started to embrace them. Their swept-back, curvaceous lines make them ideal additions to modern (often angular) interiors.
