Rare Pair of Armchairs Fiberglass and Natural Leather by Jorge Zalszupin 60's

About the Item

Rare pair of armchairs designed by Jorge Zalszupin, in fiberglass and natural leather. Super comfortable, with a beautiful design and lightweight. Jorge Zalszupin (1 June 1922 – 17 August 2020) was a Polish-Brazilian architect and designer noted for modern design. He was born in Warsaw, Poland. In the 1950s Zalszupin founded L'Atelier, a furniture design manufacturer in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Zalszupin's one-off designs were included by Oscar Niemeyer in the Palácio da Alvorada and the Palácio do Planalto. In order for clients to accept his bold ideas, he first had to build his own house. Hence, designing furniture that suited its architecture was a natural consequence. The available woods, the post-war eagerness for the new and the developmental wave in Brazil at that time were ideal conditions for his creations to be very well accepted by the most open minds. Further on, that furniture with pure lines, exquisite execution and noble materials, comfortable and timeless, was industrialized. Its brand L'Atelier spread throughout most of Brazil and its showrooms were benchmarks of modernity. In Brasilia, in the 60s and 70s, there was no public building that did not have its mark. At the factory, a first-world structure mobilized designers, architects, engineers, artisans and a whole range of professionals who collaborated from the research of materials to the final, finished and commercialized product. The restoration process only needed refinishing, which was done by our team at the finest details and preserving the originality from that period.
