Set of Four Italian 18th Century Transitional Period Giltwood Armchairs

About the Item

A striking and most unique complete set of four Italian 18th century Transitional Period giltwood armchairs. Each armchair is raised by superb cabriole legs at the front and elegant circular tapered fluted legs to the rear. The frieze displays an exceptional molded design and a richly carved central rosette flanked by acanthus leaves. Above the beautifully shaped seat and scrolled arms is the upholstered "à chassis" back support with a molded design and a fine top central reserve. All original gilt throughout. À Chassis signifies that the upholstery is easily removed and changed for every season.
