FSM Smile chair by De Sede. With its new, patented adjustment mechanism, Smile offers comfort that stands out from the rest and can be stopped at any angle without any effort. The trigger for the back mechanism is discreetly built into the armrest and offers support even with the backrest in reclined position. Footrest and seat back are adjustable separately. This slim chair offers an especially long footrest, both in the passive and active relaxing position. Set on a rotating base, "Smile" is a flexible partner in every living room.
Details:
Standard configuration: Neck cushion on stainless steel support. Trumpet base pearlescent chrome-plated.
Construction: Seat, footrest, back and armrest: metal structure.
Upholstery: Seat: Bultex multi-layer construction with comfort layer. Belted suspension. Back: molded foam with comfort padding and lumbar support. Armrest: molded foam with soft padding.
Neck cushion: The loose neck cushion is fitted to a stainless steel support, height adjustable and easy to remove. Neck cushion also available with strap and counterweight upon request, at additional charge. Stainless steel support not available with this option.
Function: The footrest can be unfolded and locked in any position with slight pressure on the backrest. The back can be adjusted with the left-hand armrest.
Substructure: Trumpet base pearlescent chrome-plated. High-gloss chrome plating or different-colored coatings available upon request, at additional charge. Glides for hard and soft floorings.
Note: Folds and creases will inevitably develop as the product is used. Avoid putting excess pressure on the footrest or the back when in relax position. The seat can withstand a maximum of 120 kg, the back 60 kg and the foot rest 30 kg.

A de Sede piece lends a strong personality to the room it occupies. One of the world’s most respected furniture design houses, de Sede’s quality Swiss craftsmanship has its foundation in a long history of making expertly designed saddles. Founded in 1965 to build on a successful family-run saddler’s workshop in Klingnau, Switzerland, de Sede now is a leading manufacturer of leather goods and furniture, including sofas, chairs and beds.
At the core of de Sede’s philosophy is a reverence for the complexity and beauty of handcrafted furniture in an age when mass-produced objects are the norm. Over the years, the atelier has built a name for itself in its modular furniture pieces, which are made using the highest quality leather upholstery. The sleek, elegant pieces incorporate functionality with beauty. Amongst their best-selling designs is the DS-600 introduced in 1972. Also known as the Non Stop sofa, it is a sensually curved, snaking modular sofa whose individual pieces can be zipped together to create multiple variations and arcs.
De Sede has collaborated with some of the world's finest design minds, enhancing the prestige and individuality of their products. Designers like Santiago Calatrava, Antonella Scarpitta, Stephan Hürlemann, Gordon Guillaumier and Philippe Malouin have all created pieces with the atelier. Ubald Klug’s 1974 DS-1025, also known as the Terrazza sofa, is an enduring favorite with its cascading levels of leather. In 2017, de Sede expanded its product line to include high-quality leather handbags, which are as thoughtfully designed and beautifully crafted as its furniture. De Sede AG is now part of the Volare Group AG and continues to handcraft its fine furniture and other goods from its factory in Klingnau.

Thanks to the option of Dual rotation the armchair can fulfill a variety of functions and surprises the person seated with unimagined flexibility. Depending on how the two chair parts are rotated relative to one another, the armchair can be used with an armrest, a footrest or an intelligent shelf. The needs and demands of the person seated are virtually limitless. Designer Stefan Heiliger’s basic IDEA was to create a functional armchair that can be operated differently. Previous functional armchairs had a footrest that could be pulled up or an armrest that could be folded up individually. Pli can do without all this. This smart swivel armchair revolutionarily fulfills the arm- or footrest functions with the correct pivot point. The design of the dynamic seating object looks stately.
