Two Armchairs, Rio Rosewood and Leather, Stamped G-Plan, 20th Century

About the Item

Two magnificent armchairs from the firm G-Plan (United Kingdom). Clean line in Scandinavian style where the structures are in Rio rosewood, backs and seats in leather. Totally original, resolutely modern and inspired by André Arbus (famous designer, architect and French sculptor of the 20th century) which gives it a little Art Deco touch, this suite is timeless. Period :20th century circa : 1960   Designer : Leslie Dandy Dimensions armchairs :                              height: 92 cm                                             width :52 cm                                              depth :57 cm                                             seat height :46 cm                                    designed by Leslie Dandy and manufactured by E. Gomme and Sons Ltd, High Wycombe, was one of the first attempts in Britain to establish a style after -war readily available. Dandy has developed the simple and modern forms of the Utility to make it a range of more comfortable and elegant wellness furniture. British furniture company G-Plan was launched in 1953, but its origins go back much further. In 1898, Ebenezer Gomme (1858-1931) founded a precision carpentry workshop, E. Gomme Ltd., in High Wycombe, England, one of the major furniture manufacturing centers in the United Kingdom. E. Gomma prospered until the 1940s. After the war, Ebenezer Gomme's grandson, Donald (1916-2005), was convinced that a certain radical and more minimalist aesthetic would sweep the furniture industry. This is how G-Plan began, a subsidiary of the traditional furniture company E. Gomme Ltd. In the 1960s, Scandinavian style swept over international design, and imports from Denmark overtook furniture made in the UK. So to compete, G-Plan hired Danish designer Ib Kofod-Larsen to create new collections in fine woods, such as teak and rosewood. Despite the competition, G-Plan remained one of the most recognized names in UK furniture production until the late 1970s.

  • Sculpture the Tiger and the Bulldog, Aaron Hinojosa, 20th Century
    Located in CRÉTEIL, FR
Magnificent sculpture named "the tiger with the bulldog" is a unique piece. Mixed technique, particularity of its creator, mastering the recycling of all materials at hand, always with an ecological concern, conveying messages on what he lived or wanted to denounce in his time. Period: 20th century Dimensions: Height: 39cm x width: 25cm x depth: 16cm. 24 carat leaf gilding This feline is not chosen by chance, the tiger is a strong symbol of vitality, unpredictability, strength but also of self-confidence. It also strongly symbolizes ambition and justice. On his head, like a cap, the face of the man with his eyes raised to the sky. On his back, like a backpack, the bulldog's head. The bulldog, with its massive, muscular, stocky body as well as a powerful jaw evokes strength. His strength, his tenacity, his willingness to fight stronger animals. This sculpture certainly found its inspiration in England, or Aaron Hinojosa, the first country where he stayed after leaving Mexico. Victorian...
