About the Item

This fine old chair made to grace an Adirondack lodge's deep porch or lawn was made circa 1910. Made most likely on site at a lodge and found in Upstate New York it is constructed of willow limbs & twigs cut and nailed together. The nails are square cut and appear to be hand made in many cases. The piece has a great silvery color from years of outdoor use and many signs of age and natural drawing to the wood. Almost a piece of sculpture the chair has great presence and style. While difficult to see in photographs the whole chair has a notched pattern cut into the raw wood creating a lovely hand quality and a distinctive decorative element to the chair. A rare survivor of the period that most often would have simply decade and fallen apart without thought. This chair has actually been repaired lovingly at least once if not twice in its history but only has one new piece of wood sliced into the old framework.. The chair is sturdily made and is still tight and should be used now indoors to preserve its rarity.
