About the Item
18th century, Pair of Baroque Tuscany Lacquered Wooden Benches
cm W 247 x D 38 x H 120. seat H 56 cm x D 32
This pair of important baroque benches was made in Tuscany, Italy, at the beginning of the 18th century. The lacquered wood structure has trompe l'oeil decorations and central noble coat of arms.
The back is shaped. In the centre stands a large shield, quartered and crowned, representing the noble family that commissioned the sessions, certainly designed to be placed in an aristocratic palace. The shield is inserted inside a trompe l'oil frame that simulates the golden bronze. On the sides of the coat of arms are painted trompe l'oeil in imitation stone, monochrome, vegetable-shaped decorations with acanthus leaves and volutes. The decorations are taken over the underside of the seat where the painting simulates a stone architecture composed of volutes, curls and acanthus leaves, embellished with trompe l'oeil depicting golden bronze garlands centered by a decor with volutes and ornate phyto-morphic fake gold bronze with in the center a large lacquered shell in tones of blue.
The seats are foldable through a system of eyelets, to show a compartment.
These charming benches, very decorative and large, can be placed together or individually in different environments, such as salons, corridors, entrances, also useful as a support surface of great elegance.

Their wooden structure is entirely sculpted, lacquered and gilded in Mecca. It consists of a seat with a profile moved from which depart two armrests characterized by arched elements, moved and culminating in curls. The effect of great movement is enhanced by the decorations of rocaille taste with volutes and leaves that surround them creating dynamism.
The band under the seat, quadrangular and move, is decorated with rocaille elements and framed with reserve that creates curls in some points of connection. The six curved legs, characteristic of the Baroque era, are decorated with phytomorphic elements and end with a curly...

18th Century, pair of Italian Rococo carved giltwood benches.
This elegant pair of two-seater benches was built in the second half of the 18th century in Rome, Italy. The structure, in richly carved and gilded wood, has the characteristics of the Baroque period.
The band under the seat has a mixed profile and is carved with rocaille motifs and rich floral decoration in relief in the central part. The four legs, curved and moved, have on the uprights the same carvings and in the terminal part of the foot emerges a scroll. The rear uprights, carved with curled end, are higher than the seat, in order to slender the image of the benches vertically.
The seat is lined with velvet from a later period.
These benches can be exhibited in pairs or individually in entrances or corridors, in living rooms and studios or in a room at the foot of the bed. They can also be placed below large paintings. Very decorative, bright and graceful, they are suitable both in contexts characterized by antique and modern furniture.
