About the Item

Add extra seating to a hallway, library, or living room with this richly detailed antique Gothic bench. Crafted in Southern France circa 1850, the tall fruitwood bench stands on hand-carved barley twist legs joined by a matching stretcher for added stability. The rectangular back features two carved portrait panels depicting Renaissance figures framed by arches, flanked by twisted columns and topped with finials. The upper frieze bears the carved inscription “A 1603 D,” referencing the period style that inspired the design. The wide seat is upholstered in striped salmon and gold fabric, secured with decorative brass nail-head trim, and framed by elegant scrolling armrests carved with acanthus leaf motifs. The bench is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, showcasing a warm walnut patina and finely detailed craftsmanship throughout. A striking and functional statement piece that blends architectural presence with Old World charm. Measures: 48″ W x 27″ D x 51″ H.
