Cristiano Toraldo di Francia Unique Bench in Walnut with Gold Leaf Wall Panel

About the Item

Cristiano Toraldo di Francia and Andrea Noferi, bench with drawers and wall panel, walnut, gold leaf, fabric upholstery, Italy, 1986 Admirable set consisting of a bench with matching piece of wall art designed by Cristiano Toraldo di Francia and Andrea Noferi for the high-end store ‘Raspini’ in Florence in 1986. The bench was standing in the showroom of the ‘Raspini’ boutique that was completely designed by di Francia and Noferi. ‘Raspini’s’ showroom showcased valuable products in a wonderful interior with great mixture of materials and textures which were all designed by the designer duo. Curved lines, bold shapes and a striking texture of various stones, brass and wood formed a striking interior. The bench features a frame in walnut with strongly shaped legs. Two hidden drawers are integrated into the frame. On top of the bench lay two cushions, currently upholstered in a peach-colored shade with a subtle floral pattern. Above the bench a wall panel can be adjusted in any preferred height. Four elements rest in a horizontally attached frame. Each field holds a vivid surface with gold leaf. The warm, luxurious gold shows subtle lines that structure the elements in a geometric, yet organic strict way. The gold leaf reflects and mirrors the surrounding. Italian architect Cristano Toraldo di Francia (1941-2019) and Adolfo Natalini founded ‘Superstudio’ in 1966. Di Francia also published scientific research publications during his career and worked as a teacher for architecture. When ‘Superstudio’ dissolved in 1980, di Francia started to work professionally by himself and soon began a collaboration with architect Andrea Noferi with whom he also worked on the ‘Raspini’ store in 1986. Di Francia left a large legacy of theoretical work as well as architectural buildings and furniture designs behind. Please note that these items are in good, used condition.
